ABSTRACT

This work was aimed to establish a quality control method for evaluating the effects on glucose and lipids of the fruiting body of Isaria cicadae Miquel from strain Ic-17-7 (Ic-17-7fb) using a rat model of type 2 diabetes (T2DM). Random amplified polymorphic DNA, sequence-characterized amplified region, and high-performance liquid chromatography (HPLC) were used for the quality control of Ic-17-7fb. The pharmacological effects on streptozocin (STZ)-induced high fat diet (HFD)-fed Albino Wistar rats were evaluated. The rats underwent the following treatments: control, metformin, Ic-17-7fb (0.166 and 0.5 g·kg

ABSTRACT

The different conceptualisations regarding equity and inequality in health are discussed, concluding that inequity and inequality are not synonyms. It is suggested that inequality should be used for describing epidemiological profiles and equity in relationship to the distribution of and gaining access to health attention services. The situation in México is reviewed in greater detail, as there is great socioeconomic polarisation in this country, a privatising sanitary reform which has increased inequity and incomplete citizenry as the main obstacles for gaining a reduction in inequity in health.

ABSTRACT

Objective To study the functional mechanism of Naoxin tong Capsule (Ca psule for cerebral and heart diseases) on a cute coronary syndrome (ACS). Methods Totally 105 ACS p atients diagnosed with coro nary angiography were randomized into a treatment group (55 cases), and a control group (50 cases). The control group was treated routin ely with western medicine while the treatment group treated with Naoxintong Capsule, 2 capsules each time, 3 times a day, in addition to the routine western medicine. Before and 4 weeks after treatment, the serum hypersensitive C-react ive protein (hs-CRP) was measured. Before and six months af ter treatment, changes of carotid intima-media thickness (IMT) and carot id plaque were examined with Color Doppler Ultrasonography. Resu lts Four weeks after treatment, the hs-CRP level in the treatment grou p was significantly lowered than before treatmen t, and the effect was more significant than that of the control group (P
